It is one of the most common reasons people come to see us, and the reassuring part is that most back pain responds well to focused, hands-on care. What might be causing your back pain

Back pain can come from different muscles, joints, discs or nerves. Part of our job is working out what is driving yours, then building the right plan around it. These are the most common.

Muscular and joint strain

The most common kind. Muscles, ligaments and the small joints of the spine get overloaded or irritated, often after lifting, twisting or a sudden movement. It hurts a lot but usually settles well with the right care.

Disc-related pain

The discs that cushion your vertebrae can become irritated or bulge and press on nearby structures. This can cause pain in the back and sometimes refer into the buttock or leg.

Sciatica

When the sciatic nerve is irritated, you can feel pain, pins and needles or weakness travelling down the leg. Many cases settle well with treatment that calms the nerve and restores movement.

Load and posture

How you sit, stand, lift and move across a day adds up. Long hours in one position or a sudden spike in activity can tip your back over the edge, and small changes often make a real difference.

When to seek urgent care

Most back pain is not dangerous. But if you have severe pain after a serious accident, numbness around the groin or inner thighs, or any loss of bladder or bowel control, see a doctor or go to your nearest emergency department straight away.

How we treat back pain

Your treatment is tailored to what is driving your pain. A typical plan combines several of these.

Assessment and diagnosis

You will leave your first visit understanding what is driving your pain and what we are going to do about it.

Hands-on manual therapy

We ease stiff joints and tight muscles, settle pain and get you moving more freely.

Dry needling

Where appropriate, dry needling may help release tight muscles and reduce pain.

Muscle energy techniques

Gentle, guided techniques that help improve movement, reduce tension and restore control.

Exercise prescription

A tailored exercise plan that rebuilds strength, control and confidence in your back, so the change lasts beyond the clinic.

Education that sticks

We explain your condition in plain language so you can confidently manage it and lower the chance of it coming back.

What to expect and how recovery looks

Recovery looks a little different for everyone, and it depends on what is driving your pain. Many people notice meaningful change within their first few sessions, though we will never promise an exact timeline. Your active role matters as much as the hands-on treatment, so we give you exercises you can manage and check your progress as you go, adjusting the plan as you improve.

Funding and booking

You do not need a referral to book a standard physio appointment. Rehab Wise accepts WorkCover, CTP, NDIS, DVA, Medicare Care Plans and most private health funds.

Get in touch or call the clinic and we will help you work out the next step.
